Microsoft hit by EU ruling

That's the fine that a European Commission slapped on Microsoft today for "anti-competitive conduct".

In brief:

Microsoft wouldn't release certain technical information about Windows, other companies had difficulties running it properly on their servers.

MS competitors felt it was unfair that the Windows operating system came with Windows Media Player. The EU court agreed and asked Microsoft to sell a version of Windows sans-WMP.
